Mountaineering areas in Romania |

1. Rodna Mountains - the only place recommended for mountaineering outside the Meridionali Carpathians. Not very technical, without great walls. The first attractions for this mountains in winter is covering the main ridge. Also can be interesting the secondary ridges in Pietrosul and Ineu area. You really need a complete bivouac equipment. |

2. Bucegi Mountains - interesting for mountaineering is the Eastern and Northern faces. Very attractive in these parts are the alpine valleys and (only for the best) big walls and ridges. |

3. Piatra Craiului Mountains - with a very sharpened ridge, long by 22 km, represent one of the technical ridges in Romania. Also one can try the alpine valleys on the Western face, or the walls and the solitaire towers. |

4. Fagaras Mountains - the most alpine mountain in Romania, offer a really mountaineering experience. The main ridge is the principal target for mountaineering - is a long ridge with many technical and also dangerous places, on a high altitude. But you can try a lot of other secondary ridges (especially on the Northern side), wilder and more technical. Also in Balea and Negoiu area, you will find many interesting ice waterfall. |

5. Parang Mountains - just a small part of them are interesting for winter mountaineering., especially the Northern side, where you find alpine ridges and rock walls. |

6. Retezat Mountains - is an other very interesting place for winter mountaineering. Many alpine ridges, great walls on high altitude, all in a splendid landscape. You need a complete bivouac equipment. |
